NORTH EAST ENGLAND GO CRUISING

North East England went on a mini cruise via P and O Ferries from 26th to 30th March, 2017.
There were 117 members from the 17 Counties in N.E.E.  We spent two nights in central Ghent and enjoyed seeing the local sights via boat, foot and horse drawn carriage.  On Tuesday we travelled by coach into Brussels and met up with Glen Aston who is the Chairwoman of Trefoil Guilds in Foreign Countries and also runs the Benelux and France Trefoil Guild Group who meet once a year.  ( Glen, wearing the light blue jacket with some of the members from East Yorkshire)

They had just had their meeting the week before we went over to Brussels.   Glen has lived and worked in Brussels for over 30 years and  her husband Ron is also a member of her group. We also met up with  Karen and Julie who are members of the T.G. in the Brussels area.   Glen  had arranged for everyone to have a meal at Chez Leon, a restaurant in Brussels which she knows well. It was also an extra special event for two members from East Yorkshire as whilst we were in Brussels Jackie presented Liz Hodges   of Bridlington Guild with her Gold Voyage Award and                 June Hutchinson of Beverley Guild with her Bronze Voyage Award.

Our last day in Belgium was spent in Brugges sampling the chocolates   before  returning  home on the overnight ferry.

Jackie  Dickinson  -  Region Chairman and Marianne Clayton – Region Secretary organised the trip and June Wilson – Region International Adviser liaised with the team in Brussels.  Everyone enjoyed the trip immensely, it was a time to make new friends and renew old friendships.  We had lots of laughs and everyone in Belgium made us feel very welcome.
