Cleveland is made up of the 4 unitary authorities of Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton. It has a rich industrial heritage as the Cleveland Hills were key suppliers of ironstone which was essential to running blast furnaces along the River Tees.

In the 19th century, its main town Middlesbrough grew from a hamlet into a major industrial town because of the iron boom.  Teesport is one of the United Kingdom's main ports and the Transporter Bridge is a symbol of its engineering and heritage.  The coastal resorts of Redcar, Marske and Saltburn, the port of Hartlepool, which hosted the 2023 Tall Ships Race, and the market towns of Guisborough, with its ruined Augustinian priory, as well as Stockton and Yarm are all notable places to visit.

Cleveland Trefoil Guild was formed in 1978. As the county is fairly small, it is easy for Trefoil members to meet together for county events or for events organised by another Guild. Members also actively support Girlguiding Cleveland as much as they can.
