Role description:
Advisers can be appointed at national, country, region, or county level. Typically, The Trefoil Guild have advisers in the following areas: international, programme and development and public relations. Other advisers can be appointed as required.

General roles and responsibilities:
- Is a member of The Trefoil Guild.
- Has a specialist role of responsibility.
- Advises the chair, the board or executive committee on matters relating to their areas of expertise and responsibility
- Supports and liaises other advisers, sharing successful ideas, seeking solutions, and learning from experience.
- Liaises with Girlguiding including their adviser equivalent if appointed.
- Working with the chair, communicates and promotes relevant information to members including activities, events, and opportunities.
- Ensures that social media and the Trefoil website remains current and relevant for their area of expertise and responsibility.
- Gathers feedback from members to support activities, programme, strategy and the promotion of Trefoil.
- Assists at teams’ days, training events, activities, and gatherings.
- Submits articles for The Trefoil magazine and the Trefoil website.
- Submits reports and photographs for county, country, region, or national annual reports which represent their area of responsibility.
- Supports the organiser, board, or executive committees in ensuring that events, activities, and meetings are delivered safely, which includes the completion of a risk assessment.
- Complies with Trefoil policies and procedures.
National adviser
- May be a member of the board of trustees, the operational committee, and the editorial team, attending meetings as required and in line with their role descriptions and terms of office on appointment.
- Works closely with the national chair and the other national advisers, liaising closely for support and sharing of ideas.
- Works with the treasurer and chair of finance and general purposes to plan resource needs, identify budget implications and manage risks.
- Liaises with their country and region advisers, providing encouragement and support.
- Holds regular meetings with their country and region advisers
- Working with the national chair and the other national advisers, plan and deliver an annual adviser conference.
- Submits regular progress and planning reports including both strategic and operational elements for the board of trustees.
- Provides articles and updates for The Trefoil magazine and Trefoil website.
- Ensures that Trefoil is actively and positively promoted nationally and within countries and regions.
Public relations adviser

- This specialist role is held at county, country, region, and national levels.
- Ensures that The Trefoil Guild is actively and positively promoted within Trefoil, to Girlguiding, to the media and to the public, by:
Keeping in touch with local media and letting them know about interesting upcoming Trefoil events, activities, and news.
Developing and maintaining a wide range of contacts within Trefoil, Girlguiding, the media, businesses, and other organisations.
Looking out for press, radio, and television opportunities.
Encouraging members to liaise with the local media and to send articles to The Trefoil magazine, the Trefoil website and Trefoil social media.
Promoting Trefoil on all occasions, especially through social media.
- Ensures that all public relations opportunities are made known promptly to members in the county, country, or region.
- Working with the chair, communicates all public relations opportunities to members as well as promoting and publicising Trefoil events.
- Working with the chair, responds to enquiries from the public, the media, and other organisations.
- Makes good use of publicity materials provided by Trefoil.
- Seeks opportunities to promote Trefoil at Girlguiding and community events including requesting inclusion in Girlguiding communications.
- Devises and coordinates photo opportunities to promote The Trefoil Guild.
- Follows the Trefoil photographic, video and audio policy and supports members to understand the policy and the requirements of the general data protection guidance.
National public relations adviser
- Is a member of the board of trustees attending as either voting or non-voting member as described in their terms of office on appointment.
- Is a member of the operational committee and the editorial team.
- Plans, develops and implements public relations strategies for Trefoil as required by the board of trustees.
- Works with staff and country and region advisers in the production and distribution of publicity material and other resources for Trefoil use, to maintain and promote a corporate and positive image.
- Provides information and photographs that can be used on the Trefoil website.
- Supports the national chair, in managing Trefoil Guild’s response to issues and incidents.
