The best thing about Trefoil is that we are a place for you to find what works best for you. So if you're looking for the perfect Trefoil experience that meets your interests and works with your schedule, you can always start your own.

It's easy to create a new Trefoil and we're here to support you every step of the way. The paperwork is as minimal as possible to allow you the maximum time for enjoying activities. For the answers to lots of questions, read the Trefoil handbook in the first instance.

How to set up a Trefoil Guild

Build your Trefoil around your interests or objectives. You might want to create a social space with like-minded people. Or perhaps you're interested in learning new skills. Are you looking for a focus for your community action and fundraising? Or perhaps you just want to find new friends to do activities with. Choose what you want from Trefoil and then get the message out.

You can start small with a few friends or acquaintances. We recommend at least 3 (including yourself) to start with. You and a friend could each ask a friend to join you, and ask them to bring someone along too. Or reach out to others in your community via local groups, notice boards, or online. If you'd like to find others in your county who could be interested you can email us and we will put you in touch with the county team in your area.

The key to success is being flexible. We know that meeting monthly, weekly, or at a fixed time doesn't work for everyone. And not every member can make every meeting. So there are lots of ways to make your Trefoil flexible and accessible to all.

Some Trefoil Guilds organise themselves online via a Facebook group, Zoom meetings, or via a WhatsApp group with ad-hoc in person meetings for events or trips. Some have a fixed meeting date a few times a year with flexible dates in between. Some have a regular interest group like a book club or craft session, with a wider group of members joining for events. Some run joint events with other members across the county or region and meet online for the rest of the year.

Try working out a schedule that works for you, and you can always amend it as you go.

Pick a name that descibes your Trefoil or your area or combine both! Like our Ashton Amblers Trefoil Guild. They are an easy-going guild in Ashton, ambling through life. Or like our London Walkers and Talkers Trefoil Guild - they meet to go on walks around London.

Once your new Trefoil has been registered, you will receive a welcome email with some helpful hints for new guilds, some branding items and some further information to aid your new Trefoil. You will also receive a registration certificate, presented by your county chair, so make sure you keep this safe.

Please send all joining forms with your registration form. Your Trefoil will be available for online applications once your registration certificate has been sent out.

If you're not yet in touch with your county team then let us know and we'll introduce you. While they're signing the form, get your members to pop their details on a joining form so we can register you all as members on our database, KEY. Send everything in by post or email and we'll be in touch to confirm it's arrived and you're registered.

It's as easy as that!

If you're not sure you're ready to start a whole new Trefoil, why not let us put you in touch with a local guild and your county team. You could always work in tandem with an existing Trefoil to create an interest group, or become a sub-group that meets at a different time to start with, before branching out on your own. We have lots of ways to support guilds to create the bespoke and enjoyable experience you are looking for. Get in touch by email or call us on 020 7834 6242 (extension 3010).
