2024 is an exciting year full of possibilities. To support this, we have created a personal challenge: Motivate.

This initiative was produced through collaborative working by advisers from the 9 countries and regions across the UK. Motivate is only available for members of Trefoil Guild in the UK and TGIFC, and badges will only be available for members who are registered with us.

What is Motivate?

Motivate is a personal challenge that you can complete with friends and members. Set your own goals and try out some new activities to achieve them.

Motivate is far more than a badge. It is commitment to a common cause. It is friendship and fun while challenging yourself to step outside your comfort zone, pushing boundaries wide, wider or widest to truly see what you are capable of achieving as the exceptional human being you are. A member with limited movement or disability of any kind can adapt any of the suggestions to suit their individual capabilities or design their own. Why not invite community leaders to a Trefoil meeting to tell us about their work and opportunities for engagement?

How do I take part in Motivate?

Motivate encourages you to partner with another member for mutual help, support and encouragement, to set realistic goals, and, through friendship and the 4 key Trefoil messages, help motivate each other.

Complete your challenge by incorporating our Trefoil key messages into the activities for each Motivate area: air, land and water. Choose 2 activities from each of the 3 Motivate areas.

What activities can I do for Motivate?

There are 3 Motivate areas: air, land and water. Below are some activity suggestions for each. You do not have to pick from this list and we encourage you to create you own. Click on the image to enlarge it.

Motivate questions and answers

Our key messages are: find friendship, give support, get involved, and get active.

As you undertake this journey, as an individual or with others, try to record your achievements. Use media, photos or videos, keeping a diary or even sending postcards to yourselves. We have created a handy record sheet that you can use too.

There is no time limit on you achieving your goals. Enjoy it, and have fun. Take it as an opportunity to learn new skills and new things about yourself and your buddy.

The Motivate badge will be available from your country and region later on in 2024. Keep your eyes on this page and our social media for more updates about when the badge will be available and how to get it.

  • Use #MotivateTrefoil to share your challenges on social media.
  • Join our Trefoil challenges Facebook group where you can chat about Motivate and our other Trefoil challenges.
  • Share your challenge with us to be included on this page of our website.

There are lots of ways you can get other Trefoil members involved. We have this page of the website that you can show them. Or you can download our full PowerPoint presentation to present at your next meeting. And we have a handy 4-page PDF that you can print out that summarises Motivate nicely. Why not use it to encourage new members to join and try this new challenge with you?
