Oxfordshire is a county rich in history and rich in countryside. But within its boundaries there is also leading science and technology in its ancient university and in centres such as Culham and Harwell. Industry and commerce flourish in Oxford and the expanding towns of Banbury, Bicester, Didcot, Witney and Wantage.
From the Chilterns in the east to the Cotswolds in the west, with the valley of the winding river Thames between, the county is home to nearly 700,000 people. Advances in medicine are pioneered at Oxford’s hospitals not far from BMW’s Mini Plant and the historic colleges in a county of contrasts, where ancient landscapes brush alongside modern life.
