Gloucestershire is a semi-rural county comprising the Cotswolds, the Forest of Dean and the Severn Vale. Gloucester city, on the River Severn, has a 12th century cathedral and an interesting dockside quarter. Cheltenham is a festival town famous for the races and the literature festival. We have several smaller market towns such as Cirencester, Stroud and Tewkesbury and many beautiful villages. Our geographical neighbours are Wales to the west; Bristol & South Gloucestershire to the south, also Wiltshire; Worcestershire to the north (part of Midlands Region) and Oxfordshire to the East (part of Anglia Region).
Gloucestershire has 12 local guilds including Lones.
