
Central Glamorgan has 5 Guilds, Merthyr Tydfil, Upper Rhondda, Pontyclun, Bridgend and Porthcawl. The Guilds stretch from Merthyr Tydfil in the north on the edge of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, to Bridgend in the south lying on the River Ogwr and Porthcawl in the west situated on the South Wales Coast overlooking the Bristol Channel. Pontyclun and Upper Rhondda lie within Rhondda Cynon Taff County. As a County the main areas or valleys are known for their Industrial past, with coal mining providing most of the work for the area.
