Lincolnshire South Friendship Day in Skegness
Members of the Lincolnshire South County Trefoil Guild gathered in Skegness on 11 July for their annual Friendship Day, bringing Guilds together for a celebration of community, connection, and shared activity. Hosted this year by Skegness Trefoil Guild, the seaside setting offered the perfect mix of fresh air, good company, and just enough coastal charm to guarantee smiles all round.
There seems to be something about the seaside that brings people together — first the Annual review in Scarborough in June, now Skegness in July. Clearly, Lincolnshire South County has discovered the secret formula: sunshine, sea air, and a group of Trefoil members ready for anything (within reason).
Friendship Day is a highlight of the County Trefoil Guild calendar, giving members the chance to get involved in county‑wide activities, find friendship with fellow members, give support to one another, and get active in ways that suit every pace and personality.
Guilds from across the county brought a wonderful range of activities, including tai chi, badge making, clay modelling, and several other creative options. Members could join in, take a wander along the seafront, or — for those feeling adventurous — dip their feet in the sea, which prompted a lively discussion about whether the water was “refreshing,” “invigorating,” or simply “very, very cold”
Others chose to enjoy fish and chips, adding a classic seaside touch to the day. Whether crafting, strolling, paddling, or enjoying lunch, everyone found something that suited them — and the relaxed atmosphere meant every choice was celebrated.
Throughout the day, Guilds mixed and reconnected, with conversations flowing easily among long‑standing members and those newer to Trefoil Guild. Many enjoyed the chance to catch up with old friends, while others were busy welcoming new faces into the fold. The supportive atmosphere and shared laughter highlighted the strong sense of community that defines the organisation, with members simply enjoying the opportunity to spend time together by the seaside.
Friendship Day once again demonstrated why it remains such a cherished event. The gathering showcased how kindness, enthusiasm, and a willingness to get involved can bring people together and create a memorable celebration for all.
And, of course, it wouldn’t be a Trefoil Guild event without finishing with cake and coffee before Guilds set off for home.
All proceeds raised were donated to Carers First Skegness, part of Carers First Lincolnshire, through a direct local contribution.
