Round the Regions - Lothian and Borders

East Lothian

Both Muselburgh and East Lothian County Guilds have had interesting meetings during the early part of the year. In East Lothian there have been talks on the Children's Hearings, Life as an independent book seller, Stranded whales on the East Lothian coast as well as coffee mornings and a fundraising ‘soup'er lunch prepared by some members doing their Voyage award.

Musselburgh's meetings moved to a new venue and night at the beginning of the year and their meetings have been equally as good, starting the new year with their annual beetle drive (these are extremely competitive), they have also had interesting speakers including a talk about Willie Ross MBE known for being the Director of Music at Edinburgh Castle, given by his great grandson and also one about the Scottish Trefoil Guild visit to Sangam and India last year.

West Lothian
West Lothian had a Burns Lunch in January followed by musical entertainment supplied by Hilary Stokes.
In March they were entertained by Flutes4fun a 12 a piece musical group consisting of mostly flutes with a couple of clarinets which was much enjoyed by all.
Trefoil Extra, their afternoon group had a games afternoon in January and then in February visited Arrowheadz in Livingston Centre to play darts, which was great fun. In March, a lady came and guided them in doing a flower
arrangement in a teacup.

Borders
Berwickshire Trefoil Guild held a very entertaining Beetle Drive in aid of the Borders Search and Rescue Unit. Those present had great fun trying to throw a dice to get the correct numbers to draw the various parts of a beetle. Who
would have guessed that they would get so competitive? Cheers resounded in the hall when some people succeeded! There was a raffle and supper was provided by the Trefoil Guild members. Ian Stark, a volunteer for Border SAR,
described the work undertaken by this group of volunteers who get called out in all weathers to locate missing people, find overdue hill-walkers, treat injured climbers and undertake various other rescue missions. The Unit relies heavily on public donations. A cheque for £600 was presented to Ian Stark and Kevin Sterrick by Berwickshire Trefoil Guild Chair, Eileen McLean.

At the March meeting, Berwickshire also had fun recycling textiles into brooches and spec cases, led by one of the members. Berwickshire then had a super Friendship Bracelet exchange with units from Girlguiding Scottish Borders to celebrate WTD100 – and Eildon trefoil participated too.
Roxburgh had a super Murder Mystery evening.

Midlothian

Midlothian celebrated 100 years of World Thinking Day by trying out a variety of activities, including a 100 piece jigsaw, matching language phrases to country's flags, posters about the World Centres and finding out how long it takes to transfer 100 sweets from one bowl to another using chopsticks!
