The Guide of Dunkirk - 'our' lifeboat

The Anglia Heraldry Guild were delighted to be able to visit the lifeboat ‘Guide of Dunkirk’ during our week in Norfolk this August. The ex-lifeboat has been bought by a Reedham boatyard, Abbey Boat Builder with the plan to fully restore it.

This was the lifeboat bought by the Guide Association as part of the huge Guide Gift Week effort in 1940. It crossed to Dunkirk as soon as it was launched and ferried many soldiers off the beaches to the larger transport ships. She was also the first built to be self-righting. We feel so privileged to be able to visit the boat, and even to climb aboard. We hope that next year we will be able to have a river trip on her.
