Trefoil in Canada

On the 27th July several Anglia Trefoil members together with some Anglia Guide leaders flew to Toronto where we stayed 4 nights at the Westin Harbour Hotel on the waterfront of Lake Ontario. During our visit we enjoyed a city tour on a London Bus followed by a boat trip. We visited the CN Tower and the Aquarium near the Blue Jays Baseball Rodgers Stadium and visited a Summer Camp Wyoka at Clifford before meeting some local Canadian Guiders to exchange Badges and tokens and enjoyed a meal together at the Spaghetti Factory.

We then transferred to St Catharines where we stayed at the Ridley College, a local Boarding School, for 5 nights. Whilst there, we visited the White Meadows Maple Syrup Farm and watched the Rowing Regatta at Port Dalhousie where we paddled in Lake Ontario and rode on their famous Gallopers ride. Then we had a short hike at Balls Falls and walked around the old village before enjoying a Wine Tasting Tour in the nearby town of Jordan.

The highlight of the holiday was our day at Niagara Falls where we got up close to the Canadian Horseshoe Falls on a Hornblower boat trip wearing our red ponchos followed by a buffet lunch in the Fallsview Restaurant of the Sheraton Hotel overlooking the falls.

On our last evening, after having had free time to explore the town of St Catharines, we enjoyed a picnic in the Montebello Park with some local guiders, Trefoil members and some young Pathfinders who entertained us with a campfire after we had exchanged badges and crafts.

Finally, on our last day, as we travelled to the airport, we visited the lovely old town of Niagara-on-the-Lake and enjoyed a food tasting tour around the town.

We had a great time in Canada and were sad to leave this lovely country where everyone was so friendly. All the members of the Beaver Patrol, as we called ourselves, will have some very happy memories of the fun and friendships that we experienced. I am so glad that I went – my first International Guiding trip since I was a Cadet in the sixties!!
