Region Review at Witney 2016

On Saturday 23rd April Oxfordshire hosted our 2016 Anglia Region Review in Witney. It was a lovely day and over 200 Trefoil members from all around the Region gathered together at the Henry Box School in the centre of the town.
In the morning, after a welcome by Margaret Fleetwood our Region Chairman and Maureen Arnold the Oxford County Chairman, members had a choice of activities. These ranged from walks around the town of Witney following the Blanket Trail to singing, dancing, bell ringing, a variety of Generation Games which included curling and a selection of arts and crafts.
After a lovely ploughman’s lunch eaten by many in the sunshine, members and guests went into the school hall to watch an ongoing photo presentation of Region and National and County Trefoil events that had taken place during 2015 before the business part of the afternoon began.
Our President Vivienne Smith welcomed everyone including Mrs Jo Dowling the Midlands Region Chairman and Mrs Mary Putt our Region Chief Commissioner to the 45th Annual meeting of the Trefoil Guild in Anglia Region. She then asked Margaret Fleetwood, who will be ending her term as our Region Chairman later in the year, to give her final report.
Margaret outlined the various events and activities that had occurred in the Region and Counties during the past year and said how pleased she was to see the success of the Voyage Award which the Region had originally started and piloted 4 years ago before it went National in 2014. She thanked the Counties for all their invitations for her to join them on many occasions and thanked her Region team, Advisers and the Trefoil members for all their help and support during her term of office and wished everyone well in the future.
After our Region Treasurer Gill Crapper presented her report, Jo Dowling read a letter from our National Trefoil Chairman Pat Downer who was unable to be at our meeting this year and this was followed by a report from Mary Putt about the progress of Guiding in the Region. She said how pleased she was that the Region had received a certificate from the Heraldry Society for the new Region Standard which had been made with the help of many Trefoil members. She then presented Margaret Fleetwood with an Anglia Brooch for all her hard work for Guiding and the Trefoil Guild in the Region
We were then entertained with a very enjoyable talk given by Mr Alan Brewer who had worked originally as a chef for the BBC and then for the BOAC and British Airways as a Chief Cabin Steward Director. He told us lots of amusing tales and stories about some of the celebrities that he had worked with including Fanny Craddock on her BBC Television cooking programme and the many air flights which involved looking after members of the Royal Family including the Queen.
The afternoon then finished by us all singing Daytime taps followed by tea and cake before we returned to our many different parts of the Region after an enjoyable day and we look forward to visiting Essex West in 2017 when the Annual Review will be in Upminster on Saturday 22nd April.
