Spring – the season of Trefoil AGMs! I managed to attend eight of the 13 guilds’ AGMs and had a wonderful time meeting members and hearing about events and achievements over the past year.
Seven new Chairmen have taken up their roles this year and six attended the March Exec meeting at our new venue. The Teams Day for all GLK Chairmen, Secretaries and Treasurers has been booked for the 20th May and we have a County trainer coming to our June Exec meeting to tell us about Twitter. The County Twitter account has been set up and so far 3 tweets have been made. @GLKTrefoil
The members of our newest Guild made their Promise together in the Sky Garden on the top of the Walkie Talkie building in London and celebrated with afternoon tea using their legacy from Joan Kemp.
We decided to make some changes for this year’s Annual Review; we had a new, more central location with a large car park and the luxury of a caretaker who set up and put away the tables and chairs for us! A member of Cockney Pride was booked to entertain us and we certainly were entertained, with traditional London songs and flag waving! Looking around the hall I could see that everyone was joining in with the singing – it was a grand night! Our Treasurer was presented with her 50 years Long Service Award by our County Commissioner, two members received Thanks Brooches and another was given her Silver Voyage award.
Forty seven GLK members participated in the LaSER holiday on the Isle of Wight and had a wonderful time. The organisation was superb and it was lovely to be able to talk to people from other areas of the region and get to know them. The weather was just right for getting out and about. (I think the organisers must have planned it!) On our last evening we toasted the Queen on her birthday, sang our National Anthem and Rule Britannia – all 350 of us! There was an amazing atmosphere and I think we all felt that we had participated in Her Majesty’s birthday celebration.
