Girlguiding North Yorkshire West has an old building in dire need of repair at Birk Crag on the outskirts of Harrogate. It is used for all sorts of Guiding events and activities both indoor and outdoor and gives members a chance to meet other units and other sections and to have short holidays and sleep overs. It's a place which is held in great affection by all members both Guiding and Trefoil Guild. An architect has designed a new building which will house all activities and give disabled members the chance for a residential experience. We need to raise a million pounds for the rebuild and the associated services - new access road to replace the current dangerous access etc.
In order to qualify for large grants from trusts and commercial donors the membership must raise a large sum themselves. Local Trefoil Guilds are obviously helping.
Jill Heyes who is chairman of the Trefoil Guild Internet Guild and P. R. Adviser for North Yorkshire West has walked one million steps in 75 days - a challenge which she began on 1 January and completed on March 16th. She has also been raising money through a Just Giving page and from people signing her sponsorship form at Guiding and Trefoil events,
She has currently raised just over £350. If anyone would like to help Jill increase the funds, the Just Giving link is http://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/Jill-heyes
