Surrey West takes to the Thames

What a great day 150 members of Surrey West Trefoil Guilds enjoyed recently—a boat trip on the River Thames for our “mountain-top moment”. Girlguiding Surrey West’s Centenary theme is water so this seemed an appropriate way for us to celebrate. We were pleased that our County Commissioner and Centenary Champion joined us.

Kent East Trefoil Guild’s Centenary Garden Party

On a glorious summer’s day in early July 300 Trefoil Guild members and guests from across Kent East descended on the gardens belonging to the Lady FitzWalter at Goodnestone Park, Wingham, near Canterbury, for a Garden Party in celebration of 100 Years of GirguidingUK.

Thanet South Guild’s Centenary Celebration

Thanet South Guild, Kent East, wanted to celebrate the Centenary, but how do it so it would be different and memorable? One of the members, a bell ringer, suggested a BBQ in the grounds of the Waterloo Bell tower at Quex Park, Birchington and from this came plans for a weekend with members gathering for a BBQ on the Friday night, ten pitching their tents and sleeping overnight and other members returning for an alfresco lunch the following day.

The Dover Guild's Centenary Adventure.

On a Saturday in May a group of 36 made up of Trefoil members, Guiders and Brownies set out on their Centenary Adventure, which was to include a flight on the London Eye and a visit to the Crystal Palace Maze. To allow all members to go, including those who were not as `agile` as they would like to be, we hired four wheelchairs.

Hampton Court Palace Centenary Flowerbed.

At the beginning of our Centenary celebrations a member of Greater London West approached Hampton Court Palace to ask if we could have a flowerbed in the gardens. It was felt this would be a really appropriate site as Lady Baden Powell had lived in a grace and favour apartment at the Palace from 1943 to 1976.

London & S.E. England Annual Review

Trefoil Guild members packed The Great Hall at the Civic Centre, Bromley on Saturday June 19th for the Annual Review. Moyra Carey, the Region Chairman, gave her report accompanied by a power point presentation depicting some of the activities undertaken by Guilds during 2009. This had been organised by a member of the Regional PR team and her husband.

God’s Golden Acre – Houses of Hope

During London & SE England’s Trefoil Guild Leisure Break at the Lakeside Coastal Resort, Hayling Island earlier this month a raffle was held, the proceeds going to Girlguiding LaSER’s Centenary Service Project for God’s Golden Acre.

LaSER celebrates the Centenary with a Leisure Break

The five day leisure break at Warner’s Lakeside Coastal Resort on Hayling Island was a great success with 360+ Trefoil Guild members enjoying their outings to Arundel Castle, Stanstead House, HMS Victory and the Spinnaker Tower in Porstmouth. We were blessed with fine weather almost the whole time, especially on the Thursday when there was hardly a seat to be had in the courtyard as we enjoyed the WARM sun.

From Rainbows to Trefoil Guild, Girlguiding Surrey West gathered at Charterhouse School, Godalming on 14th February for a ‘Voyage Round the World’ - their Centenary Thinking Day event. Charterhouse was the school attended by Robert Baden-Powell.

Dover Trefoil, Beating the Bounds.

After many months of planning by the Guide County of Kent East team the week end of Saturday 19th of September saw members from the youngest Rainbow to Trefoil with parents, brothers and sisters joining in their local section of Beating the Bounds. This could be done by any means and over two days and at 12 noon all taking part across the county would renew their promise.

A Summer Gathering

Surrey West Indoor Picnic Day

It was not a very promising start on the morning of Surrey West Trefoil Guild’s picnic at our county campsite, Herons Wey, near Farnham: the sky was grey, the wind was blowing and rain was in the air. As well as the social aspect of the day, it was to be an opportunity to raise more money for our centenary project, which is to purchase a small area of woodland adjoining the campsite in order to improve security.

Janet Maskell gains Civic Award.

How London & South East Changed The World
3 March 2009
BANSTEAD Trefoil Guild decided they would like to help change the world and on behalf of the Woodland Trust collected, from schools, residential and nursing homes, friends and families, over 150,000 Christmas cards for recycling. As a result, in partnership with the National Trust they will be planting at least 20 trees on the North Downs near the County camp site, Jordan Heights.
