Judy Betts, Slyvia Friend, Margaret Smith and Maureen Cross from Dover Guild join in ‘Beating the Bounds’.

After many months of planning by the Guide County of Kent East team the week end of Saturday 19th of September saw members from the youngest Rainbow to Trefoil with parents, brothers and sisters joining in their local section of Beating the Bounds. This could be done by any means and over two days and at 12 noon all taking part across the county would renew their promise.

Nine members from Dover Guild joined Dover District Guides on their section of the coastal walk. This had been planned to allow everyone to join in with four sections to choose from and was like a walking bus.

With four members walking from the Light House on the Cliffs to the sea front in Dover before setting off, girls exchanged gifts with walkers from the next Division of South Goodwin. It was a beautiful morning and with several short stops along the way and before we knew it we were meeting up with the next group. After photos we were off again, this time down hill to the sea front.

As we set out from the cliffs another group set out from Shakespeare beach having exchanged gifts with guides from Folkestone, they then joined others on the sea front, here our five members joined in and walked to the meeting point where, dead on mid day, we all renewed our promised.

This was a special day and will be remembered for a long time by all. The first of many County Centenary Celebrations. Margaret Smith, Chairman Dover Trefoil.
