International Trefoil Guild
Guide Sponsored Orphanage
23rd February 2009

- Pam Makepeace with children in Ghana
I first heard of this Guide Sponsored Orphanage in Accra from Margaret Wellock, Trefoil Guild National International Adviser. She had recently visited the Cenash orphanage that is sponsored by the Ghanaian Guides and had met the children.
In August 2008, Rose Mortagbe ISGF President in Accra, contacted Margaret and said that they had now adopted the running of the orphanage but not the buildings and that the objectives for the orphanage were to construct the structure for animal husbandry, to equip the Nursery section with teaching materials and First Aid Kits and to replace the old mattresses in the orphanage. Although there were only 31 children, money was desperately needed.
I was very interested in this project, as were other Region International Advisers, so I put it to Midlands Region Executive Committee and the response was encouraging.
By the end of January 2009 a magnificent sum of £807.50 had been raised by Midlands Region Guild members.
Monica Roberts, Midlands Region International Adviser.
