Change the World

We hope you are enjoying taking part in Girlguiding UK: Changing the World – the first of the Centenary projects which runs until August 2009. Don’t forget to record what you have done by going direct to www.girlguiding.org.uk/changingtheworld Here’s the first in a series of articles giving you some more ideas of what’s in store during the Girlguiding UK Centenary year!

The Centenary Launch The Centenary year begins on the weekend of 5-6 September 2009, marking the occasion when girls attending the Crystal Palace Boy Scout Rally asked Lord Baden-Powell to give girls the opportunities open to boys through Scouting. Our celebrations will kick off in style with a launch parties across the country. Every member will be able to join in and to invite a guest who has previously made her Promise and we hope many Trefoil Guild members will be able to join in too!

Adventure 100 Also in September 2009, each member will get The Greatest Adventure booklet containing a challenge based on ten Adventure themes. During the Centenary year - until 20 October 2010 - we are all being challenged to complete one fun activity from each theme to gain the Adventure 100 badge. Booklets will be available from your Trefoil Guild Chairperson in September 2009.

What an Adventure! Our young members will have the chance to take part in lots of fun-filled, exciting Adventures. There is a nationwide theme for each age group: Rainbows Go Wild!, The Big Brownie Takeover Great Guide Getaway Ultimate Centenary Adventures for the Senior Section. These themed day trips and events will take place throughout the Centenary year – members can book into a pre-organised event or create local Adventures at unit, District, Division or County level. But it’s not just our young members who will be able to take part – look out for a selection of Adventures for adults too, including guiding coach tours and holidays!

What else is in store? Counties, Divisions, Districts and units are sure to be organizing their own Centenary celebrations in addition to national Centenary events and initiatives so there’s plenty to get involved with! To join in the fun, why not contact your local Commissioner or County Centenary Champion to find out more about how you can get involved in local events? You can find out more information on the Girlguiding UK Centenary site from January 2009 and on the Trefoil Guild website too. In January 2009, your local Trefoil Guild Chairperson will receive a copy of the Ways to Celebrate booklet. The definitive guide to all the opportunities the Centenary has to offer - be sure not to miss out!
