Skipton Trefoil excel on the Monopoly Run

Skipton guild members joined 1394 teams to excel in the annual Monopoly Run in London

The Monopoly Run is a live game of Monopoly held in London, using an App to check in at the actual sites on the Monopoly board. It was held, this year, on Saturday 2nd March, over a full day. 5 members of our guild participated along with another 7,995 scouts, explorers, guides, rangers, leaders and trefoil guild members.

Following an eventful journey to London, a train strike on the previous day meaning we had to complete part of our journey from Yorkshire by bus, the five members of our team arrived at the starting point for the game on the Saturday morning.

We checked in in pouring rain, which meant that our information pack was soggy before we had even set off. Undeterred, shortly after 9:45 access to the App was granted and we were off, not quite at the same speed as some of the Explorer groups who were running (at least at the start of the game).
Less than an hour later we had our first (and only) set of properties and were able to receive double rent from everyone who landed on them. Then it was off to Park Lane and Mayfair, which sadly belonged to another team and so we had to pay a LOT of rent. Then on to more properties, completing challenges – to send in photographs of ourselves doing various things including the conga (whilst looking happy – not a problem as we were having a great time) also hugging a tree  – plus complete a cryptic London quiz along the way.
Many more properties, lots of rent paid, 8 hours and 14 miles later we reached our final location – Kings Cross station, where we rested our weary feet before catching the train home.

We were really pleased with our result. We finished with over £3,000 in the bank (just a little way behind the overall winners who finished with an amazing total of £15,493) and were second out of the 8 teams in our game and 189th (out of 1395 teams) overall, not bad considering that we were worried about being bankrupt by lunchtime.

An amazing day incorporating our trefoils aims and contributing to our own personal Motivate challenge.
