Midlands celebrate

Trefoil Guild Midlands know how to party

454 members signed up for the Midlands party at Staffordshire Show ground on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year. No one quite knew what to expect as it had been billed as Elaine’s surprise party. We were greeted by stilted entertainers juggling and performing tricks whilst balancing way above the crowd.

On the Oak theme, Andrew, from the Woodlands Trust gave us a very interesting talk, we learnt so much about their work and oak trees. Next came the decoration of the hats we had brought, craft materials were supplied. We had no idea why, but all would be revealed later.  A left-right game followed, a story was told by our region chair and a parcel on each table was sent to the left and the right or was it the to the right and left?

The fun continued, as the organising committee, namely the Midlands executive team, donned camp gear and entered into ‘theatrical’ mode to ‘act’ out a Murder Mystery, entitled ‘Who killed the County Commissioner’ written by Susan Cole, (former CC), several years ago. Audience participation was fantastic, as on the command of ‘Inspection’,  the patrol tables had to stand up, and on ‘hang the brailing’, waving of the decorated hats was required. After lunch and cake cutting, the hilarity continued and after much deliberation, the murderer was exposed.

Lola Lamour put us in 40's (and 50's) mode with some superb singing, it didn’t take long before she had fantastic accompaniment with everyone joining in. Despite the heat many danced in the aisles and waved their hats in celebration. The day finished with the thank yous and taps.

Unique memories were made, old friendships revived and much laughter made it a very special day for all.
